Carpe Diem (Seize The Day) for flexible ensemble

Carpe Diem (Seize The Day) for flexible ensemble

SKU: 1005

This arrangement of Carpe Diem is written in a fully flexible format to allow the director to assign parts as needed for reduced instrumentation.

  • Parts 1-4 are written out for each wind instrument to be assigned as needed.
  • There are two mallets parts written that also cover Parts 1 and 2 in the winds.
  • Perc.3-5 are written for a minimum of two players each, but the piece is playable with a minimum of just two players on Part 3 with snare drum and bass drum.

M.41-48 has optional Group 1 and Group 2 sections indicated in every Part 3 and Part 4.  This is to allow the director to give the wind players in each group a break.  If you choose to use the optional group divisions, then divide each Part 3 and Part 4 into two groups to let one group rest while the other plays.  It will also serve to soften the volume level naturally.

Carpe Diem is written as an easy concert piece or a recessional for graduations. The title is my tip of the hat to my high school English teacher, Connie Moore. I learned the term in her class years ago. She taught so many essential skills that I still use today even in my approach to music composition. I wrote the song intending for it to carry a sense of excitement and hope for what lies ahead. I thought that Carpe Diem was an appropriate name for the piece and a small way to honor a teacher who made a big impact on my life.
