Carpe Diem for concert band
Carpe Diem is written as an easy concert piece or as a recessional for graduations. The title is my tip of the hat to my high school English teacher, Connie Moore. I learned the term in her class years ago. She taught so many essential skills that I still use today even in my approach to music composition. I wrote the song intending for it to carry a sense of excitement and hope for what lies ahead. I thought that Carpe Diem was an appropriate name for the piece and a small way to honor a teacher who made a big impact on my life.
Instrumentation is listed below. On percussion, enough parts are written to keep the players involved, but they are not all necessary. Perc.4 snare and bass parts are the most critical, and the Perc.5 crash cymbal part would be of the next importance. The other parts all add wonderful color to the piece, but they may be played or omitted as you have need to do so.
